A CANAL BECAME A LEGEND: THE CANAL DU MIDI

The canal du Midi, a mystical construction on the list of world’s heritage

First it was only a crazy dream of Pierre-Paul Riquet, born in Béziers. Then he built the canal du Midi under Louis XIV. This canal is connecting the Garonne river with the Mediterranean Sea and so opens the door to the Atlantic Ocean. This surprising construction from a length of 240 km is listed by the UNESCO as world heritage.
